In the late 1800's, the Arts and Crafts Movement swept through England and America. Architects and designers alike created environments with a new perspective, incorporating furniture, wallpaper, textiles, and carpets into highly decorative interior spaces. Morris & Co., influenced greatly by its chief partner William Morris, became famous for intricate floral and foliage motifs inspired by both Persian design and vintage European textiles. This homage to the Wm.Morris style is adapted from Morris' vine and pomegranate motifs, with an acanthus leaf border inspired by a Morris & Co. tapestry. The versatile color palette of our William Morris Red includes accents of deep indigo blue, medium blue, soft green, terra cotta, caramel, saffron yellow and ivory on a soft, warm red ground. Each of these colors has been specially dyed to achieve graduated shades of each hue on the wool yarns. The result when woven is a visual texture and depth of color that simulates the effect of aged vegetable dyes. And because the same color palette is used throughout the collection, finding coordinating rugs is easy. Rugs in the English Manor Collection are woven in the U.S.A. of premium New Zealand worsted wool, and finished with Karastan's patented Lustre-Wash making them exceptionally soft and durable. As practical as they are beautiful, they provide decorating solutions with a look that is comfortable, timeworn, and casually elegant.
